YMCA of the Fox Cities

Updates from Bill Breider, President/CEO

Fall 2009

YMCA to Retain Current Membership Rates:
The YMCA of the Fox Cities will retain our current membership rates through 2010. Typically membership rates are increased in January of each year to reflect 'cost of living' increases and to help manage increased operational expenses. However, based on our current economic conditions and the subsequent pressures that many individuals and families face to meet their financial demands, the decision was made to freeze rates during this time period. In addition, we will continue to offer our 'bridge' membership for any YMCA member or family member that experiences a job loss or a reduction in employment. Please contact the membership department at any of our Fox Cities locations for details.

2009 Community First Fox Cities Marathon A Huge Success:
The 2009 Community First Fox Cities Marathon and related events were held on September 19 and 20. This year's events included the full and half marathon, 5K run/walk, and the Kid's races, which had record participation. One of the strengths of this Community First Credit Union sponsored event is the volunteer involvement and the YMCA of the Fox Cities is proud to play an integral role in this area. Numerous staff members volunteer in a variety of roles in the planning and implementation of the Marathon weekend.

Congratulations to Fred and Wendy Hauser who were selected as the 2009 Community First Fox Cities Marathon Volunteers of the Year for the coordination of food and refreshments at the finish line. Fred, former YMCA of the Fox Cities President/CEO, and Wendy have done a superb job coordinating this area for the past eight years.

The YMCA of the Fox Cities is one of the non-profit organizations that receive a portion of the proceeds from this event. Cathie Tierney, president of Community First Credit Union, presented the YMCA with a check for $15,000 at our September Board of Director's meeting, which will support our Strong Kids Campaign. The Community First Fox Cities Marathon is truly a benefit to our entire community.

Heritage Club Update:
The YMCA of the Fox Cities celebrated the success of our Heritage Club on Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at North Shore Country Club. The Heritage Club consists of individuals and families that have made a decision to support the future of our association through our endowment program. Support can be made through an outright gift or by naming the YMCA in your estate plans.

A total of 423 people have joined the Heritage Club since its inception and the combined market value of our endowment fund is $6,629,815. Heritage Club members can designate where their support will be applied and the YMCA can request the interest on an annual basis for use in supporting capital purchases, new program innovations, or scholarship support. Please contact me at 954-7601 if you have any questions on the YMCA Heritage Club and Endowment program.
