Fox Valley Bike Challenge

Begins May 1, 2015 and runs through September 30, 2015

Looking for an activity that is free, fun, improves your health, saves you money and helps make the air cleaner? It’s as simple as riding your bike! The City of Appleton is teaming up with the Fox Cities Cycling Association and other area organizations to offer the Fox Valley Bike Challenge free to all Appleton residents. The City of Appleton has a number of trails and is adding more bike lanes to make it easier to get around the city by bike.

  • AGES: All ages are welcome to participate; this is a great family activity
  • FEE: Free
  • REGISTRATION: Register at www.nationalbikechallenge.org any time after April 1, 2015
  • DATES: Begins May 1, 2015 and runs through September 30, 2015
  • PRIZES: Monthly prizes will be awarded
  • QUALIFIED RIDES: All outdoor bicycle riding counts, whether you are biking for fun with the family, commuting to work, mountain biking or riding with a group in the country

Friday Night Out • Appleton YMCA

Friday, May 15 at 5:30 PM until 9:30 PM

Parents take the night off! Our teachers will provide an exciting night for your child, while you enjoy an evening out. Children will love the wide variety of age appropriate activities. Please bring a sleeping bag and pillow for the end of the evening movie.

Fee: Y Member 1st Child - $16/Additional Child $9
Fee: General Public 1st Child - $20/Additional Child $10

Friday Teen Night • Appleton YMCA

Friday, May 15 at 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM

Grades 5-8 Bring your friends and join us for music, basketball, dodgeball, swimming, arts & crafts, inflatables, food and best of all FUN! Fee: YMCA Member - $2, General Public - $4. More information available at 920.954.7620 or cspecht@ymcafoxcities.org

Spring Birdwatching Hike (All Ages ) • Apple Creek YMCA

Saturday, May 16 at 7:30 AM until 9:00 AM

Come out to the Bruce B. Purdy Nature Preserve and Apple Creek YMCA for a guided bird watching hike. See and learn about the many species of birds that call our forests and fields their home, while getting out and enjoying the beautiful spring landscape. Hikes begin at the Apple Creek YMCA begin with a short program in the Nature Study Classroom. Pre-registration is required.

Fee: General Public: $5/family

Healthy Active Aging Day (All Branches)

A variety of activities and class demonstrations will be available to help us all age more gracefully, more healthfully and have a lot more fun!! Sample a variety of the programs that the YMCA offers that will help us live longer, fuller lives. Watch for more information on the display screens and on fliers.

Saturday, June 6 at 9:00 AM until 10:30 AM

Join our second annual Apple Creek Little Sprouts Fun Run! We will walk/run the little trail to benefit The Annual Campaign. Funds raised for The Annual Campaign allow membership and services for all. Come and enjoy our beautiful quarter mile nature trail. Each runner will receive a race day bag and some healthy snacks after the run. Families are welcome to participate! (Not guaranteed race day bag if registered after May 30)

Healthy Pets Day • Heart of the Valley YMCA

Thursday, June 25 at 9:00 AM until 11:30 AM

Save the Day! Welcome to our 9th Healthy Pets Day @ Heart of the Valley Y. We will have Dr. Laritson, a veterinarian to answer questions that you may have about how to keep your pets healthy and safe. Come meet the therapy dogs from the Fox Valley Humane Association, Miss Laura and Winston, Mr. Shane and his snake Harriett, Mr. Jeff and Liz Ann Jill Marie his pet turtle, our friends from PETCO will be here with some of their fun animals. And much much more… we will be collecting donations for the Humane Association during the month of June. Please pick up a wish list of urgent need items in our lobby. Come have FUN!

Plant and Wildflower Walk (All Ages) • Apple Creek YMCA

Saturday, June 27 at 8:30 AM until 10:00 AM

Hike the trails of the Purdy Preserve with a naturalist and learn about the various plants and wildflowers found on the preserve. Program begins at the Apple Creek YMCA with a short introductory lesson in the Nature Study Classroom. Pre-registration is required.
