FALLS PREVENTION AWARENESS WEEK
September 23-27, 2024

Do you find yourself feeling unsteady or that you’re starting to fear falling as you age? Did you know there are exercise programs that help improve balance, strength and flexibility? See how you can stay strong and find an exercise that works for you at the Y!

During Falls Prevention Week, we will offer a variety of classes and educational opportunities to help you feel more confident, improve balance, muscle strength and flexibility, and teach you how to prevent falls at home and when you are out and about.

  • Apple Creek YMCA*
    Creating Confidence from the Ground Up
    Monday, September 23, NOON-1:00 PM
    As we get older, various factors contribute to falls being more of a risk. Confidence matters in relation to aging and falling. We'll discuss how to improve confidence, discuss how to fall safely and practice strategies for getting up and down from the ground. Presented by: Nikki Strick, Physical Therapist at Peak Performance

  • Fox West YMCA*
    Stepping On: A Falls Prevention Workshop
    Tuesdays, September 24-November 5, NOON-2:00 PM
    Stepping On is a seven-week workshop using adult education to develop knowledge and skills to prevent falls in older adults. The Stepping On program focuses on how strength, balancing exercises, medication management, home safety, footwear, and vision are important in preventing falls.

  • Heart of the Valley YMCA
    Balance Basics
    Tuesday, September 24, 9:00-9:30 AM
    The function of balance and mobility training is to help a person feel safe when moving from place to place. In this class we will be performing exercises to increase strength, flexibility, sensory awareness, reflexes, and concentration. A great class for beginners and those with limited mobility. No registration required.
     
  • Balance Workshop: Build your balance and confidence through stability & mobility exercises! Incorporate balance exercises into your daily routine to help prevent falls and maintain your independence.
