Celebrating our teachers at the Y!

As Teacher Appreciation Week comes to an end, we’re reminded of the importance of having supportive and caring teachers, and how they can make a difference in the lives of children every single day.

Teachers are among the most important members of our society, as they inspire and prepare the next generation to become leaders and live successful lives. There are so many ways teachers give to us, and there are just as many ways that we can give back to them.

How Teachers Support Us
Aside from your parents, teachers are the ultimate role model for students. By the time you finish high school, you’ll have had dozens of teachers that have helped shape you into the person you are. A good teacher will stay positive and be supportive of you as you strive to be successful. They show compassion to their students, push them to reach their academic goals and provide a safe environment that their students feel comfortable in.

Teachers are also responsible for providing guidance to their students. It is important that they can recognize a child’s strengths and weaknesses, so they are able to provide them with assistance and encouragement when it’s needed. Teachers are willing to do this because of their love for helping others, and their passion for our youth and their education

Teachers do so much for us from working long hours grading papers, creating lesson plans, meeting with students outside of school hours and so much more. They are some of the most supportive people in our life, and it’s important that we can show our appreciation by supporting their needs as well.

How We Support Teachers
Thanking a teacher for their help and support of your child goes a long way to make teachers feel appreciated. You could also bring a gift to your child’s teacher such as flowers, a journal or book, gift cards, school supplies, a handmade gift or a thank you note just to name a few.

These simple acts of kindness can make a significant difference in a teacher’s life and may have a deeper impact than you’ll realize.
Most of us would not be where we are without our incredible teachers, and for that, we would like to say thank you to every teacher out there, and we hope you had a happy Teacher Appreciation Week! As writer, Bob Talbert once said, “Teaching kids to count is fine, but teaching them what counts is better.”
