Outagamie County is proud to announce a formal partnership with the YMCA of the Fox Cities (the Y) to develop and operate a new childcare center at the County’s Brewster Street campus. This initiative is part of the County’s broader effort to support working families and address the growing need for accessible, high-quality childcare.

In January 2024, Outagamie County issued a request for information to explore interest from local childcare providers in partnering with the County to establish a daycare facility that would offer priority enrollment for children of County employees. The Y responded with strong interest, prompting the two organizations to begin collaborative planning efforts.

By June 2024, the County engaged Martenson & Eisele, Inc. to produce conceptual designs and construction cost estimates for renovating a portion of the existing building at 3375 W Brewster Street. These plans, developed in coordination with both Y and County staff, envision a vibrant, functional space tailored to early childhood development.

In July 2025, the Outagamie County Board of Supervisors formally approved the agreement with the Y. Under this agreement, the County will oversee and fund the building renovations, while the Y will be responsible for furnishing the facility, including all furniture, fixtures, and playground equipment, as well as managing the center’s ongoing operations and staffing.

Construction is slated to begin following final design and procurement phases, with a target occupancy date of July 2027. The Y plans to begin serving children and families by August 2027.

The YMCA of the Fox Cities operates six licensed early childhood centers throughout the community, caring for 750 children daily, ages six weeks to six years. Supported by a dedicated team of 183 early childhood educators, the Y offers safe, nurturing care and quality learning experiences for local families. This new center will create 100 additional childcare spaces for the county and surrounding areas, supporting one of the Y’s strategic priorities—expanding high quality childcare access for working families.

"Our goal is to provide a safe, nurturing environment that supports every child’s growth— socially, emotionally, physically, and cognitively—while giving parents peace of mind during the workday," said Dani Englebert, COO, YMCA of the Fox Cities. "We’re proud to partner with the County to serve families and strengthen our community."

“This partnership reflects our commitment to supporting the workforce and enhancing familyfriendly policies,” said County Executive, Thomas Nelson. “We are thrilled to be working with the YMCA, an organization known for its leadership in child development and community service.”
